Lenovo ThinkStation P620 is world’s first workstation with AMD Ryzen Threadripper

Lenovo ThinkStation P620

Ladies and gentlemen, presenting a new generation of workstation computing—the Lenovo ThinkStation P620. It’s the first and only professional workstation powered by AMD’s fresh-from-the-oven Ryzen Threadripper PRO “Castle Peak” processor and the only AMD-powered device in the ThinkStation line-up. Whether the workflow involves design and visualisation, rendering and AI, the ThinkStation P620 offers unprecedented performance and flexibility in a single socket CPU platform.

Leveraging on the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO processor, Lenovo is the first and only PC maker to offer a 64-core workstation platform. AMD’s new silicon offers clock speeds of up to 4GHz, 128 lanes of PCIe 4.0 bandwidth and 8-channel memory support. Customers now have unmatched core counts for multithreaded workloads ion a single-socket platform, rivalling competing dual-socket solutions.

The new AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO processor line-up includes the Threadripper Pro 3995WX, which is featured on the ThinkStation P620, flanked by the Threadripper Pro 3975WX, 3955WX, and 3945WX.

This is amazing when you think about it—traditionally a single-CPU system could accommodate 18 cores. On the other hand, a dual-socket system could support up to 56.

The ThinkStation P620 ushers in a new era of single-socket workstation computing.

Applications that take advantage of multi-threaded workloads, such as 8K real-time streaming, rendering, 3D animation, simulations, and more, stand to benefit from the new chip platform.

Lenovo’s new workstation isn’t just about raw processing power. It also offers flexible GPU configurations, faster memory, quicker storage, and superfast 10Gb Ethernet.

It supports up to two NVIDIA Quadro RTX 8000 or four RTX 4000 graphics cards, up to 512GB of memory (8x DIMM slots) and 20TB of storage.

The ThinkStation P620 is the first and only PCIe Gen 4 workstation available today, which offers twice the bandwidth of PCIe 3.0. There are six PCIe 4.0 slots (five with x16 lanes and one with x8 lanes).

It also offers 4x 3.5-inch drive bays, 6x SATA Gen 3 connectors, 2x m.2 PCIe 4.0 connectors, and 1x eSATA Gen 3 connector.

The optional ThinkStation Quad AIC M.2 SSD Adapter adds 4 high-speed PCIe M.2 SSDs to the workstation with an available x4 express expansion slots, further expanding overall internal storage.

To keep things cool, Lenovo and AMD collaborated to create an air-cooling solution with a custom-designed heat sink.

Aside from industry-leading hardware specifications, the ThinkStation P620 boasts essential enterprise-grade security features and support. ThinkStation Diagnostics 2.0, ThinkShield support, upgrades to Premier Support and three-year warranty, deliver peace of mind to customers.

Additionally, being the “PRO” series in AMD’s processor portfolio, the Ryzen Threadripper PRO processor offers advanced security features at the silicon level. This includes AMD Secure Processor which validates code before it is executed to ensure data and application integrity. Furthermore, AMD Memory Guard enables full memory encryption to help protect sensitive data against advanced physical attacks should a PC be lost or stolen.

All this ground-breaking hardware is housed in a fully customised and scalable 33.3L chassis topping 24kg.

The ThinkStation P620 comes preloaded with Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) or Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, depending on configuration.
