The multi-mode Acer Aspire Switch 11 V (SW5-173) and Acer One 10 convertible notebooks have reached Malaysian shores. The devices were two of a whopping 40-strong portfolio revealed in April at the first ever Next@Acer global press conference held in New York. Made for work and play, the two convertibles are powered by Intel’s low power Atom and Core M processors; and run Windows 10 out of the box.
Switch 11 V: Multi-mode multitasker
Powered by the Intel Core M-5Y10c processor, the Acer Aspire Switch 11 V is a versatile workhorse with long battery-life. Its fan-less design means it runs quieter while letting you get things done. It gets 4GB DDR3L RAM and 60GB SSD storage.’
The Switch 11 V retains its classic design but now has a modern metallic cover with a fabric pattern, making it sleeker and more professional. Like its predecessor, it features the famed, new generation Acer Snap Hinge 2. The innovative magnetic and latchless hinge lets you transition between four modes: notebook, tablet, display and tent. It weighs 770g (1.46kg with keyboard).
The 11.6-inch HD (1,366×768) IPS display with Zero Air Gap technology is adequately bright and sharp, and offers a wide 178-degree viewing angle. To give you peace of mind, it is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Like the Aspire R 11 I previewed earlier, there’s Acer BluelightShield to protect you from eye strain by reducing harmful blue-light emission from the screen.
Acer TrueHarmony that works with its dual front-facing speakers enhanced by Dolby Digital Plus Home Theater delivers rich, powerful, immersive audio.
Connectivity-wise, the Switch 11 V packs Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0, microSD card reader, USB 3.0 port, microUSB 2.0 port, HDMI Micro port and Acer HD Webcam (1MP front/5MP rear).
The Switch 11 V runs Windows 10 64-bit.
One 10: The affordable one
If you’re looking for a convertible notebook but are on a tight budget, then the One 10 may be the one for you. Like the Switch 11 V, the One 10 is also a multi-mode device offering you four modes: laptop, tablet, display and tent. The latch-less metallic hinge design again enables easy transition between modes. Weight is an acceptable 640g (1.19kg keyboard).
Despite being a budget device, the metallic front cover makes it look more expensive that it is. The 10.1-inch HD (1,280×800) display uses IPS technology for vibrant, crisp visual while delivers a wide viewing angle.
The One 10 is powered by the Intel Atom “Bay Trail-T” Z3745F quad-core processor mated to 2GB DDR3L RAM. Storage is 32GB eMMC.
It comes with three USB ports, VGA-out, Ethernet port, 2MP webcam, HDMI Micro port, 802.11g Wi-Fi and 4-in-1 card reader.
The Acer Aspire One 10 runs Windows 10 Home (32-bit).
