Apple may be releasing the Golden Master version of iOS 5 next week, according to an analyst. Golden Master versions are generally identical to the final public release versions. With the GM version hitting the end of September, it is estimated that the new iPhone 5 (4S?) could be released some 10-12 days after that.

Rumours and speculations are aplenty but signs seem to point to a mid October hardware release. On the Mac OS X front, Apple is also readying release v10.2.7, which incorporates iCloud. Rumours have resurfaced of a two-prong hardware strategy for the new iPhone – one a speed-bumped, entry-level 8GB iPhone 4 and a top-of-the-line redesigned, A5-powered iPhone 5. While this could be interesting, I personally don’t see why Apple would need to dilute the brand with a lower-spec model, considering the still strong demand for the one-year old iPhone 4.
We’re weeks away. Hold your horses.
