iOS 11.1 Public Beta 3 is out, fixes KRACK Wi-Fi

Apple iOS 11

While officially iOS devices will be running on v11.0.3, those on Apple’s free public beta program can now download iOS 11.1 Public Beta 3. After seeding it developers, the third beta for iPhone and iPad brings back 3D Touch gestures for multitasking, as well as hundreds of new emoji characters. Apple also released latest beta versions for watchOS 4.1 and tVOS 11.1.

With the much-awaited iPhone X around the corner, Apple is scrambling to get iOS 11.1 sorted out. Rumour has it that Apple wants this big dot release as the iPhone X starts shipping on 3 November.

I’m sure you’ve heard of the KRACK Wi-Fi exploit. It’s an exploit of a security flaw in the WPA2 protocol where a hacker can break the encryption between your router and your device. It allows them to intercept and interfere with network traffic. It’s pretty serious. And it’s pretty darn scary.

In iOS 11.1 Public Beta 3, Apple patches this vulnerability. If you’re not on the latest public beta, then to be safe, use a VPN on your iPhone/iPad.

The latest public beta brings a slew of bug fixes, and not too much else.

Apple has fixed the 3D Touch quick action shortcuts frame rate issue, as well as Access Notifications and Widgets via Reachability.

There is a whole lot of new emoji, including “Woman with Headscarf,” “Bearded Person,” “Breastfeeding,” “Zombie,” and more.
