Mobile advertising isn’t a new concept, especially with the rapid growth of mobile device adoption. A recent report by Cisco predicts that there will be more mobile devices on Earth than people by end of 2013. And according to a separate IDC report, mobile advertising was worth $4.5 billion in 2012 (up from $2.4 billion in 2011) in the US alone. As things in the mobile advertising space hots up, companies are finding new ways to reach customers in creative, fun ways. One new player is Igloo Interactive.

Igloo is a fun and exciting new way to view ads on your mobile device. It’s a revolutionary smart advertising platform that pushes ads based on a user’s age, gender, interests and profile. So users only receive ads that are of interest to them. The Cost Per Push (CPP) system that Igloo is based on uses a Geo Targeting System (GTS) to push advertisements when you are within a certain radius of a sponsored advertising spot.

That’s a win-win to both advertisers and users. Advertisers reach their targeted audience, and users don’t receive ads that are not relevant to them or their interests. #win.

What’s cool is that by viewing ads and latest advertisements, Igloo will help reduce your phone bill as a reward. The more ads you view, the more you earn. Payments are done via the Igloo app. Select Cash Out when there is a certain achieved balance. Minimum cash out amount is RM30. The payment will be made to your respective telco. This is done before the 7th of the following month. A notification of the successful cash out is sent via Igloo’s central messaging system, Facebook and Twitter.

Reducing your phone bill isn’t the only way you can use Igloo credits. Users can redeem against movie ticket purchases and other redemption offers will be available in the near future.

I’ve downloaded the app on my Android and have been giving it a test run. Being a new platform, there is a limited number of ads at the moment, but this will increase in time as adoption increases.

In your Settings, you can specify if you want to restrict Alcohol-related ads, or tweak the push settings of your device. You have also the ability to save advertisements for future viewing pleasure.

In the Earnings & Cash Out screen, you’ll be able to check on your earnings. I’ve currently earned RM0.80. More work to be done! Summary

Igloo is quite different from what’s out there. Yes, the marketplace is saturated with reward systems and advertising platforms. But Igloo is the first to offer rebates on your mobile bill, which in my opinion, is practical and rewarding. Honestly speaking, I don’t know many who like to view ads, but being unobtrusive and rewarding at the same time, Igloo may actually be worth your while.
