Huawei has brought its mid-range top-selling smartphone in China to Malaysia – the Huawei Ascend G700, a 5-inch smartphone powered by a quad-core processor and sports a 8MP main camera. The feature packed smartphone retails at RM899.

Huawei’s latest mid-range offering packs a 5-inch HD IPS (1280 x 720 pixels @ 294PPI) display and is powered by a 1.2Ghz quad-core MediaTek MTK6589 Cortex-A7 SoC processor and SGX544 GPU, with built-in 2GB RAM (similar to Ninetology’s new U9 range). The main shooter is a generous 8MP with LED flash, and the front-facing camera is 1.3MP.

The device measures 142.5 x 72.8 x 9mm and weighs just 155g.

The Ascend G700 runs Android 4.2.1 with Huawei’s own Emotion UI on top. The device features 8GB internal storage (expandable to 32GB via microSD), dual-SIM support, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GSM/HSDPA (42Mbps) radios and a big 2,150mAh battery.

First impressions
The Ascend G700 is a feature-packed mid-range smartphone, decently built and certainly value for money. The generous amount of RAM and big battery is a bonus and this smartphone should do quite well in the local budget-conscious market, just as it has been successful in its home country, China.
