Huawei runs Malaysia’s first indoor 5G trial, achieves 1.3Gbps download speed

All eyes are currently on 5G or the fifth generation cellular technology. While 5G isn’t just all about raw speeds, it is undeniably one of the key benefits of the technology. Malaysia is taking baby steps towards a 5G future, and Huawei today unveiled its first ever trial Indoor 5G LampSite at the Huawei Experience Store at Pavilion Elite, Kuala Lumpur. 

Huawei’s 5G Experiential Zone will give the public a taste of what 5G can do, running from 19 September to 6 October 2019.

The 5G experiential zone is divided into several demonstration areas: an Education Section to showcase Huawei 5G network advancement; Gaming Zone that lets the public experience seamless, latency-free VR cloud gaming enabled by Huawei 5G; and Speed Test Zone to demonstrate the mind-blowing download speeds powered by 5G.

In the near future, homes and businesses will be able to harness the power of 5G through their 5G enables mobile devices, as well as devices like Huawei’s 5G CPE Pro router. Powered by the Balong 5000, a 7nm multi-mode 5G chipset, it supports up to 2.3Gbps of download speeds.

Huawei’s Chief Testing Enginer later ran several speed tests to demonstrate the hi-speed capabilities of the technology. Speed tests achieved as high as 1.3Gbps download speed on the Huawei Mate20X 5G device.

In an official statement, Morten Bangsgaard, Chief Technology & Information Officer, Maxis said, “With supported Huawei devcies and through the Huawei 5G Experiential Zone, we could reimagine the possibilities—almost instantaenous download speeds, higher resolution video and next level VR cloud gaming capabilities. Earlier this year, we collaborated with Huawei to accelerate 5G in Malaysia, followed by our commencement of the first 5G live trials in the country. we are excited at the potential of 5G in a future of smart solutions for both consumers and businesses, and we look forward to more milestones as we progress in this journey with Huawei.”
