HTC Desire 12 and Desire 12+ available from MYR599

HTC Desire 12 and Desire 12+

Announced last month, HTC’s budget duo – the 5.5-inch HTC Desire 12 and 6-inch HTC Desire 12+ are now available in Malaysia, exclusively on Shopee. The duo boasts big 18:9 edge-to-edge displays, durable acrylic glass back design and affordable price tags.

The two devices are the first in the HTC Desire family to sport a 2.5D glass 18:9 edge-to-edge screen. While offering expansive screen real estate, they’re compact enough for single-handed use.

The Desire 12 packs a 5.5-inch HD+ IPS display (720×1440) while the Desire 12+ gets a 6-inch HD+ IPS display (720×1440).

Design-wise, they reflect the design language of the flagship U11, with beautiful curves, seamless frame and a Liquid Surface acrylic glass back. They look more expensive than they are, and that’s a good thing.

Under the hood, the Desire 12 rocks a quad-core MediaTek MT6739 with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Storage is expandable via microSD, up to 2TB. Meanwhile the Desire 12+ engages the services of an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chip, mated to 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Like its smaller sibling, storage can be expanded via microSD (up to 2TB).

Traditionally strong in the camera department, the two budget HTC devices offer differing camera setups. The Desire 12 comes with a single 13MP f/2.2 main shooter with PDAF and LED flash, while the front gets a passable 5MP f/2.4 seflie-shooter.

The Desire 12+ on the other hand uses a 13MP + 2MP f/2.2 dual-camera system with PDAF and LED flash. It gets a stronger selfie shooter – 8MP with LED flash, as well as Beauty Mode and HDR.

In terms of battery, the Desire 12 and Desire 12+ pack 2,730mAh and 2,965mAh batteries respectively. HTC supplies a 5V/1A charger for the Desire 12, while the Desire 12+ gets a faster 5V/1.5A power brick.

Both run Android 8.0 Oreo with HTC Sense out-of-the-box.

HTC Sense Companion is HTC’s in-built smart assistant that does a couple of nifty things for you. It will help you keep tabs on your schedule, and even turns off alarms for you on weekends or holiday mornings.

The companion will make sure the phone is running at its optimum speed and will also suggest clearing junk files and unused apps to free up space.

Pricing and availability

The HTC Desire 12 retails at MYR739, while the Desire 12+ tops MYR899. Both are available in Warm Silver and Cool Black.
