You have to hand it to the honor folks, they do know how to play the value game. And since the honor 7, it has proven it can play the premium game, too. Here comes another surprise – the stunning honor 8, now in Malaysia.
As you may know, honor is a sub-brand of Huawei targeted at millennials and the internet generation. The great thing about being a part of the Huawei family is, you get the same craftsmanship, hardware (including the excellent Kirin processor) and software capabilities of the principal brand.
While priced affordably, honor phones always came well-specced, and sometimes (especially on its flagships) tout almost similar specs as top range Huawei phones.
This is all good for the consumer, of course.
Hogging the limelight
So, introducing the honor 8. The most beautiful, and most powerful smartphone from the honor stable. Impeccably built and beautifully finished in glass and metal, it not only looks great but feels great in the hand. Crafted from 15-layers of glass, the reflections on the 2.5D glass are…mesmerizing.
The aluminum alloy edges are diamond-cut to create an ultra-narrow bezel.
Two’s better than one
Like what we’ve seen on the Huawei P9, the honor 8 uses a dual-lens setup. Before you ask, no it’s not Leica certified, but rest assured the 12MP f/2.2 1.25um dual-lens have their own honor tricks of their own.
For selfies, there’s an 8MP front-facing camera with 1.4um pixels.
Beauty and brawn
The octa-core Kirin 950 chip running at 2.3GHz takes care of the performance bits. Because it’s based on the cutting-edge 16nm FinFET architecture, expect great performance and power efficiency.
The combination of the power efficient architecture and large 3,000mAh enables the honor 8 to return 1.77 days of usage on average. If you’re a heavy user like me, you’ll still squeeze out about 1.22 days. Pretty impressive.
If you do run out of juice, fret not, fast charging will get you up to 47% in just 30 minutes.
On the display front, the honor 8 packs a 5.2-inch super bright Full HD display with a 96% RGB gamut.
