Honor 7X and honor 9 Lite gain Face Unlock via OTA update

honor 7X

Users of the honor 7X and recently-launched honor 9 Lite can now unlock their phones with their face. The new Face Unlock feature has been rolled out via OTA in batches.

Face Unlock records more than 1,000 data points on your face and is an alternative to unlocking your phone via fingerprint sensor or the traditional pattern/pin/password method.

It’s a safe and fast biometric authentication method that lets you hide content notifications on the lock screen. Your notifications will only be shown when your face is recognised.

The honor 7X was launched late last year, boasting an expansive 5.93-inch FullView FullHD+ display, the first for honor devices. It shares much of its underpinnings with its cousin, the Huawei nova 2i.

The device achieved record-breaking sales on the first day of online sales at Vmall, breaking a three-year record.

The nova 2i, incidently, also gained the Face Unlock (and AR Lens) feature earlier this year.

The new honor 9 Lite, meanwhile, was a sales scorcher, recording record-breaking numbers on e-commerce platform Shopee, with 2,500 units sold in just six hours.

The shiny honor 9 Lite has a mirror-like reflective glass body and comes with the octa-core Kirin 659 chip, mated to 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The mid-ranger rocks a 5.65-inch FullHD+ 18:9 FullView display and features dual-camera setups on both the front and the rear.

The honor 7X retails for MYR1,099 while the honor 9 Lite goes for MYR749.
