Grab’s Ride Cover gives you extra protection on the road

Grab Ride Cover

As part of its continuous efforts to improve the safety of passengers, Grab is piloting a new product—Ride Cover, a customised insurance package for a minimal fee of just MYR0.35 per ride.

As a passenger, you can opt-in for additional protection under Ride Cover whenever you’re using Grab for transport.

Ride Cover comprises two main components. Firstly, a Personal Insurance product underwritten by CHUBB. In the event of an unfortunate incident, passengers will be covered up to MYR100,000 on personal accident coverage; including up to MYR2,000 for medical costs, on top of the basic insurance coverage (of up to MYR41,800) Grab is already providing to you.

The second component gives you a 100 percent no delay guarantee which means that you will be compensated with a MYR5 Grab ride voucher if your ride doesn’t arrive within 15 minutes of the estimated time of arrival.

Two caveats to consider: Ride Cover is only applicable on rides with payments using GrabPay. If you’re already using GrabPay as the principal payment option, then you’re good to go. Secondly, not all types of Grab rides are covered by Ride Cover, such as GrabShare, GrabRent and GrabBike.

How do I sign up?

The pilot for Ride Cover is only available to selected active Grab ride users effective Feb 2020 based on the frequency of usage of Grab.

How do I activate Ride Cover?

The Ride Cover option is available on the Grab app through the “Insurance” tile. Refer to the diagram below:

You will be charged MYR0.35 for each ride until you decide to opt-out.

Anything else I should know?

The Ride Cover fee of MYR0.35 covers MYR0.05 for Personal Accident Insurance premium, of which MYR0.005 is paid as a commission to GrabInsurance Agency (M) Sdn Bhd as an agent.

Family members including your spouse, parent, parent-in-law, step-parent, child, brother, sister, amongst others, can also be covered by Ride Cover.

If you’re eligible, Grab encourages you to test the new feature out. Better safe than sorry.
