Google To Make Browsing Safer with Malware Protection in Chrome 12

Google is making browsing safer by adding a new malware protection tool to the upcoming release of Chrome 12. The initial focus will be malicious Windows programs. The new feature will sniff out known malware and warns users whenever they download a Windows .exe. If you’re part of the Chrome dev channel, malware protection is already available.

Google’s Safe Browsing API is the backbone of malware protection in Chrome and also powers protection in Firefox and Safari browsers. Browsers check URLs against the Safe Browsing API to see if the URL you’re trying to visit is known to be a bad apple
