Economic Stimulus Package: All Malaysians to get free internet starting 1 April

Economic Stimulus Package

Prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin today unveiled the MYR250 billion people-centric Economic Stimulus Package to help cushion the country from the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak. One of the key highlights of the initiative is the MYR600 million allocation to provide free internet for all Malaysians through the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Partnering the local telcos—Celcom, Digi, Maxis, and U Mobile, each Malaysian will receive 1GB of free data every day. This will be available to both postpaid and prepaid users. The free data can be utilised between 8AM to 6PM. This offer is valid from 1 April 2020 until the end of the MCO.

In addition, MYR400 million will be invested to improve network coverage and quality of service to ensure high quality of connectivity in the country.

Since the beginning of the MCO, telcos have stepped up to introduce relief packages for Malaysians and businesses. From Astro to Celcom, Digi and TM, perks include unlimited and free data, hotspot, content, voice calls, and more.

The government has since announced an extension to the MCO, now until 14 April. The road remains challenging and therefore every bit helps.
