Pebble isn’t letting other smartwatch followers to steel its thunder at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The Palo Alto-based smartwatch maker has introduced a premium, stainless steel version of its pioneer Pebble smartwatch, aptly called “Steel.”
The new version features Corning’s Gorilla Glass and now bears a more grown up, luxury ala ‘Rolex’ look with its stainless steel strap. Pebble Steel also comes with an additional leather strap.
The original iconic Pebble smartwatch costs US$150 and is made of ‘friendly’ plastic. Pebble Steel burns a bigger hole in the pocket (but looks great on the wrist), costing US$249. The new version ships from 28 January.
Pebble has sold more than 300,000 units of its maiden product, after the most successful Kickstarter campaign back in 2012, raising over US$10 million.
The smartwatch maker is set to launch its first app store soon, which will be the first open platform app store for wearables.
Pebble looks to stay ahead of the competition with companies like Samsung, Sony, Qualcomm breathing down its neck with their wearable solutions.
