Activision has released a new game in its popular Call of Duty series – Call of Duty: Strike Team, made exclusively for the Apple iPhone and iPad. The newhybrid game was released on the App Store as a £4.99 download, and offers in-app purchases of up to £69.99.
Call of Duty: Strike Team is set in 2020 (yes, when Malaysia also becomes a developed nation, apparently), and players lead a US Joint Operations Team in a war against an “unknown enemy.”
The new game is a unique hybrid game which switches between traditional FPS and a third person view for “reconnaissance and coordinated squad attacks.” You can play in a single player campaign or in survival mode with online leaderboards.
This is not the first Call of Duty game released on mobile devices as Activision ported Call of Duty: Zombies and Call of Duty: Black Ops previously. However, the new release looks like a substantial investment, a purpose-built mobile version that takes advantage of in-app purchase features on the iOS platform.
The game was developed by The Blast Furnace, Activision’s in-house, UK-based mobile development studio.
Call of Duty: Strike Team is available as a 1.31GB download on the App Store.
