The BMW M Track Experience Asia 2012 was specially designed to expand a driver’s knowledge on various driving techniques in a variety of predictable and unpredictable situations. First of its kinds, the programme saw a total of 200 participants and comprised of three main components which covered several fundamental aspects of driving dynamically and safely.
The event which was also held in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of BMW M GmbH, paid tribute to honour BMW’s long heritage with the division. Founded in Munich in 1972, BMW M GmbH has been an integral part of the BMW Group for its groundbreaking innovations in high performance sports cars and for its long tradition of sporting achievements both on and off the racetrack.
“The BMW M Track Experience Asia 2012 covers everything from essential driving skills to advanced competency levels. It aims to provide BMW customers with a proactive approach to manage road risk and optimize their own reactions in critical situations while ensuring the highest levels of safety, comfort and driving pleasure – be it when avoiding an obstacle on a wet road, moving away from an impending collision safely and most important of all, knowing and respecting the full capabilities of a BMW M car,” said Mr. Marcel Muhl, Head of Sales and Marketing in the Asia-Pacific Region, BMW M GmbH.
The Static Workshop Display, personally conducted by Muhl himself, included an exclusive adventure on BMW’s innovative technologies and regulations systems carried out by the BMW M Division. Participants were given a guided tour and taught how to combine technologies such as DSC, xDrive and Active Steering with driving skills to assess and overcome potential hazards.
Under the watchful guidance of certified BMW Driver Training instructors, participants were then taken through the Mini Slalom and Oversteer exercises, where they were given a chance to experience the dynamic drivability of a standard BMW 325i. Under wet driving conditions, participants were required to carry out a slalom stunt followed by a hairpin turn with the traction control turned off. The exhilarating driving lesson offered participants a hands-on experience on how to master the right evasive manoeuvres, the correct behaviour in certain hazardous situations as well as the right style of energy-efficient motoring.
In the Track Experience, the third and final exercise of the programme, participants were given the opportunity to take a thrilling drive of a lifetime zooming through the home of the Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix. Escorted by a range of high-performance BMW M models including BMW 1 Series M Coupé, BMW M3 Coupe, BMW M3 Convertible, BMW X6 M and the all-new awe-inspiring BMW M5 and guided by a safety car driven by expert instructors, the session gave participants an opportunity to learn and understand the unrestricted road-going capability, athletic performance as well as outstanding efficiency demonstrated by the BMW M models.
“With the BMW M Track Experience Asia 2012, customers can now master the right driving techniques and learn how to apply some of the impressive technologies that contemporary vehicles come with for a safe and unforgettable driving experiences,” said Muhl. He added that he was confident upon completing the BMW M Track Experience, each and every participant would have the confidence, competence and ability to keep their vehicles and their own driving habits under better control than ever before.
