Black Shark 2 Pro makes regional debut in Malaysia

Black Shark 2 Pro

Mention Black Shark and watch gaming enthusiasts’ eyes light up with excitement. It seems like only yesterday when the Black Shark 2 made an entry in Malaysia; but just as you were about to catch your breath, a newer, more powerful model is coming your way. The Black Shark 2 Pro is everything you loved in the Black Shark 2 and the original Black Shark, and even more; featuring the latest Snapdragon 855+, up to 12GB of RAM, 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage and a third generation Direct Touch Liquid Cooling System. In short, a “Gaming Phone Legend.”

It’s the first wave of smartphones that pack the newest, most powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor, which is mated to an Adreno 640 GPU.

The gaming phone is offered in two configurations: 8GB RAM + 128GB of storage and 12GB RAM + 256GB of storage. It’s a similar two-model strategy employed with the previous Black Shark 2.

While it pushes scintilating compute and gaming performance, Black Shark has not ignored the importance of cooling. The new Black Shark 2 Pro boasts Direct Touch Liquid Cooling System 3.0–the first and only direct touch multi-layer liquid cooling system in the world. Black Shark claims the system can reduce the temperature of the core CPU by 14 degrees. Pretty unbelievable.

Black Shark is also touting the phone’s low latency screen touch performance; in fact, it’s the world’s lowest latency touch screen, optimised to only 34.7ms. It’s also first to implement a 240Hz touch report rate with the synchronised action of ten fingers. For games like PUBG where every millisecond and precise movement counts, the Black Shark 2 Pro boasts a screen touch precision rate as low as 0.3mm.

In terms of design, the Black Shark 2 Pro continues the edgy, racy look of its predecessor—a design language inspired by racing cars. It even offers a Gulf Blue colour way, the iconic blue-orange livery of Gulf Oil’s Ford GT40 and Porsche 917 race cars of the 1960s, complementing Shadow Black and Iceberg Grey options. The device has two new RGB lights on the back, aptly named Shark Eyes, in addition to lighting bars and lighted logo on the back.

The device uses a 6.39-inch AMOLED screen made by Samsung, complemented by an independent image processor (DSP) made by Pixelworks, to deliver the best visuals for gaming. The Pixelworks solution has a smart motion processing technology that adapts to content; also offers absolute colour accuracy, always-on mobile HDR, and adaptive to ambient light (TrueView display).

Optics-wise, the Black Shark 2 Pro sticks to a dual-camera setup: 48MP f/1.75 main shooter (Sony IMX586) + 13MP that offers Super Night Mode.

Like its predecessor, the Black Shark 2 Pro can transform into a console-like gaming device by plugging it into a gaming case. The device also supports a host mode—simply connect the phone to a TV and enjoy the game on a bigger screen.
