ASUS may have just done it again. After unleashing the ZenFone Max Pro against the mighty Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, the Taiwanese phone maker debuts a new weapon against the budget Redmi 5 – ZenFone Live (L1).
Another uncoupled device from the main ZenFone 5 lineage, the ZenFone Live (L1) is an entertainment-focused phone that’s super light on the wallet.
It’s very closely spec-ed to Xiaomi’s budget number, sporting a 5.5-inch Full View HD+ display contained in a compact form factor. The side bezels are impressively slim and the 18:9 screen ratio ensures a more immersive experience minus the bulk.
The high-capacity 3,000mAh battery is good for 29 hours of 3G talktime, 4 days of music playback, 42 days of 4G standby, or 18 hours of Wi-Fi web browsing. Impressive.
Under the hood, the ZenFone Live uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chip mated to 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.
The cool thing is the triple-slot tray that can house two nano-SIMs and a microSD card.
In the optics department, there’s a 13MP f/2.0 main shooter with PDAF, while the front gets a 5MP f/2.4 selfie unit with soft-light flash.
The device ticks all the checkboxes where a modern smartphone is concerned – from 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS/AGPS/GLONASS.
The phone runs Android Oreo with Zen UI 5.0.
Pricing and availability
The best thing about the ZenFone Live is the price. It retails at MYR399 (0% GST) and will be available for sale at the end of this week.
The ZenFone Live comes in Midnight Black or Shimmer Gold.
