Since a faltering introduction of its Maps app, Apple has been actively improving the bundled mapping app and gobbling up a few mapping companies along the way. The latest buy: Embark Inc., a small Silicon Valley startup. Apple acquired map services companies Locationary and HopStop.com in July.

Embark is a free transit app that helps users navigate public transportation. Embark is available on iOS and was previously offered on Google Play, but Apple has since pulled the app after the acquisition. The map app has detailed info on public transit systems for cities like New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

With the acquisition of Embark’s small team, Apple is expected to integrate some of Embark’s tech into Apple Maps.
