Alcatel OneTouch unveiled its most powerful new device to date – the Idol X+, to the Malaysian market last week. The new flagship builds upon the global success of the Idol range, bringing performance, style and affordability. The Idol X+ impressed the media when it was introduced at CES 2014 in January this year.
The Idol X+ features a 5-inch Full HD @ 441PI display, 13MP 1080p main camera and packs Mediatek octa-core 2Ghz processor with 2GB RAM, 16GB of storage, 2,500mAh battery. The Idol X+ is a dual-SIM device and runs Android 4.2.2 out of the box. All this power and features encased in a remarkable 7.9mm thin body.
The octa-core processor is the world’s first commercial processor that can simultaneously work all eight cores simultaneously, translating into powerful performance yet frugal power consumption. The processor in fact gives a 18% savings over a quad-core chip when decoding Full HD video.
Design-wise, the Idol X+ is a handsome, sleek device, with a zero bezel design optimising display real estate.
The stereo speakers built into its brushed metal frame are powered by JBL, producing louder and high quality audio, supporting SACD’s 24 bit/192KHz playback. SACD is four times better than CD quality. Every unit of Idol X+ is bundled with a set of JBL earphones.
The Idol X+ retails at RM1,299 and is available nationwide at all Alcatel authorized resellers. For a limited time only, the Idol X+ comes bundled with a Bluetooth-enabled wristband fitness tracker called BoomBand. The BoomBand uses an LED system to pass notifications to the Idol X+ via a companion app. The wristband monitors movement, sleep and can also warn a user if it loses contact with the phone.
3,000 units of BoomBands will be bundled with the Idol X+ and thereafter may be offered as a separate purchase.
Together with the Idol X+, Alcatel also introduced the Idol Alpha, a mid-range smartphone with a 4.7-inch edge-to-edge HD IPS display, quad-core 1.2Ghz processor and 1GB RAM, 13MP main camera, floating lens and a slim 7.5mm body with revolutionary translucent edges.
