This is the most affordable Xiaomi smartphone you’ll find in Malaysia

Redmi 5A

Xiaomi first carved a name for itself with its uber affordable Redmi smartphone. The little wonder became an instant hit, and Xiaomi quickly became a household name. Much has changed since then. The China upstart has moved up the ranks not only in terms of branding and global market share, but also in terms of product offerings. While it has somewhat succeeded in discarding its “cheap and cheerful” label with outstanding products like the Mi Mix 2 and Mi 6, it will always be the people’s champion with the Redmi.

And forgotten the masses it has not. While the Starck-design Mi Mix 2 pushes the boundaries of industrial design and technology, it is evident that a huge percentage of consumers out there want and need a budget-friendly device.

And so, here comes the Redmi 5A. Xiaomi’s most affordable device yet. At MYR399, it’s pure value for money.

You’ll get a signature Redmi design with a metallic matte finish and a choice of two colours: Dark Grey and Gold. It comes with 5-inch HD display, and packs 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. It’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor, a popular processor amongst the budget folks. There’s also a 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant.

It packs a 13MP rear camera with PDAF and a fast f/2.2 aperture. On the front, it gets a 5MP f/2.0 unit with Smart and Pro Beautify modes.

The dual-SIM device features a dedicated microSD slot so you can expand storage without sacrificing the secondary SIM.

The 3,000mAh battery should give you ample juice throughout the day.

Pricing and availability

The Redmi 5A is priced at MYR399 and will be available exclusively online through Lazada from 12 December 2017 onwards.
