While the flagship honor 8 stole the limelight at the Malaysian launch event today, honor also sprung a little surprise in the form of the honor 5A. The honor 5A packs tremendous kit from just MYR599, becoming the de facto entry-level 5 series model behind the honor 5C and honor 5X.
The honor 5A was initially introduced in China in June, and is essentially an upgrade to the honor 4A. Specs-wise, it is pretty close to the older honor 5X.
Honor 5X’s twin
Under the hood, it is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 620, an A53-based octa-core SoC that is coupled with an ARM Mali-450MP4 GPU. It gets a reasonable 2GB RAM with storage maxing out at 16GB in stock form. You’ll be able to upgrade storage via the microSD slot though.
It sports a 5.5-inch HD IPS display with a pixel density of 267PPI. Not the highest screen you’d find in this day and age, but do bear in mind the price point.
The main camera gets a 13MP Sony IMX214 Exmor RS sensor, with a 28mm wide-angle f/2.0 lens. The front is an 8MP unit, great for selfies. It supports most of the camera features and modes on higher priced honor devices, including Light Painting, Professional mode and Timelapse.
Keeping the device juiced is a massive 3,100mAh battery that should be good for over a day’s use.
The honor 5A runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with EMUI 4.1 on top.
Pricing and availability
The honor 5A comes in Black and White colour options priced at MYR599, while the Gold variant tops at MY629.
It will go one sale from 20 September 2016 on Vmall, Lazada and DirectD.
