Moto G5s Plus: Here comes Xiaomi Mi A1’s fiercest competitor

Moto G5s Plus

The promise of a bloat-free, snappy, pure stock Android experience is what puts the Android One-powered Xiaomi Mi A1 ahead in the MYR1,000 segment. However, Moto, by virtue of its Google roots also offers a stock Android experience. And it wants a piece of the mid-range, budget-friendly pie. Say hello to the Moto G5s Plus.

The Moto G5s Plus continues where the Moto G5 left off, but offers a bigger display, a snazzy dual-camera setup and a stock Android experience. It also undercuts the Mi A1 by MYR100, at a mouth-watering MYR999 price tag.

As you would expect, it’s a well-rounded phone, with a premium all-metal unibody and polished finish. It weighs in at 168g, while it tops 8mm at its thinnest point.

It rocks a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD display, protected by slightly old-gen Gorilla Glass 3. Under the hood, it gets the venerable Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor mated to 4GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. It supports up to 128GB of additional memory via microSD.

The camera department is where Moto is shouting about. It sports dual 13MP camera with “depth editing software,” backed by f/2.0 aperture lens and dual LED flash. It supports up to 8x digital zoom.

On the front, it gets an 8MP f/2.0 aperture wide-angle lens with LED flash.

It runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, and Moto assures that the Moto G5s Plus will receive Android Oreo when it is available.
