Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A

Xiaomi is currently on the roll. With back-to-back releases of new products, including the Mi Mix 2, Mi Note 3, Mi Notebook Pro and Mi A1, the Chinese tech giant is making a phenomenal comeback, from what has been a slow couple of years. And it’s not about to stop.

Riding on the success of the best-selling Redmi Note 4, Xiaomi is giving consumers another uber big screen device—the Redmi Note 5A. The Redmi Note 4, by the way, saw 5 million units sold within six months of its launch in India. It was the number selling smartphone in Q1 and Q2 in the second most populous country in the world.

The latest Redmi 5A, aims to appeal to people who love the Redmi Note 4, but want something even lighter on the wallet.

The good news is, the affordable phablet is hitting Malaysian shores next week. Ahead of its official availability, authorised Mi Malaysia retailers are offering pre-orders for the device.

The Redmi Note 5A will come in either Grey or Gold. Retailer DirectD and Mobile 2 Go are offering pre-orders now, with stocks expected to be available on 10-11 October 2017. As a pre-order promo, both retailers are bundling a free Mi Powerbank 10000mAh worth MYR85.

The Redmi Note 5A rocks a 5.5-inch HD display packed in a slim 7.55mm body.

It’s powered by a Snapdragon 425, coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. You can expand storage via microSD. As it uses a tri-slot tray, you’ll be able to slot in a microSD card plus up to two SIM cards simultaneously.

In the camera department, it gets a 13MP f/2.2 main shooter with PDAF, plus a 5MP f/2.0 front-facing unit.

There’s a 3,080mAh rated battery (similar to the Mi A1) that should keep it juiced an entire day.

Pricing and availability

The Redmi Note 5A retails for MYR549, a good MYR200 cheaper than better equipped Redmi Note 4. If you prefer something smaller, you can consider the Redmi 4A (MYR469) which sports a 5-inch HD display and 32GB of storage.

Btw, China has a higher spec Redmi Note 5A Prime variant that rocks a Snapdragon 435, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage.
