Acer Switch 7 Black Edition

At its next@acer Global Press Conference @ IFABerlin, Acer unleashed an impressive slew of great-looking hardware. One of the show stealers is the all-new Switch 7 Black Edition—a super stylish, super sleek detachable 2-in-1 notebook with the 8th Generation Intel Core processor and discrete graphics.

The Switch 7 Black Edition continues Acer’s award-winning endeavours in the thin and light segment. As a successor to the stunning Switch Alpha, Acer has thrown every bit of good stuff into the new notebook.

Firstly, it’s proudly the “world’s first fanless 2-in-1 notebook with discrete graphics.” It rocks the latest 8th Generation Intel Core i7-8550U processor mated to 16GB of onboard LPDDR3 memory, and 512GB SATA SSD.

Intel’s latest quad-core processor delivers 40% better performance than its 7th gen. Pushing performance further is the NVIDIA GeForce MX150 discrete graphics.

The notebook stays cool with Acer’s innovative Dual LiquidLoop fanless cooling technology.

Acer continues to impress with its design prowess, delivering a great-looking notebook made from aluminium, with a brushed metal finish.

It weighs just 1.15kg, and only 1.55kg with the keyboard attached.

The Switch 7 Black Edition features an all-new Acer AutoStand, a patented kickstand that auto-deploys and auto-retracts. This is very cool, and enables single-handed operation.

The notebook boasts a 13.5-inch FHD+ IPS display (2,256×1504) and runs Windows 10 Pro 64-bit out-of-the-box.

The all-new Switch also features an embedded stylus, powered by Wacom EMR technology that comes with 4,096 level of pressure sensitivity. There’s also pen tilt support, and what’s great is that the stylus is now battery-free.

Another new trick on the new Switch is an optical-based under-glass fingerprint sensor design with POA (Power on Authentication) that allows you to power on the device, and login instantly with a touch.

It’s no secret Acer is targeting the premium user here, and goes head-to-head with the Surface Pro 2017. With prices starting at around USD1,699/MYR7,255, it’s double that the original Switch Alpha 12. However, it’s still a cool three grand cheaper than a Surface Pro equivalent, while bettering it several departments.

Pricing and availability

The Acer Switch 7 Black Edition will be available in North America and EMEA in December. No word on Malaysian availability for now.
