At the big Galaxy S8 unveil in New York, Samsung took the liberty to also introduce a new, redesigned Gear 360. The 360-degree camera now boasts 4K-resolution capture.

The new Gear 360 is now equipped with a smaller 8.4MP image sensor, with Bright Lens f/2.2 on both dual fisheye lenses. Why is the sensor smaller than its predecessor? A question left to be answered.

The new camera loses the bulbous form factor of its predecessor, and now comes with an integrated handle.

As with the previous generation camera, the Gear 360 can create 360-degree video or still images, using one or both cameras.

The new Gear 360 also introduces real-time content sharing. It can be synced to a compatible smartphone or computer for live broadcasting, or used to upload to social platforms like Facebook, YouTube or Samsung VR.

The Gear 360 is compatible with third-party accessories and mounts. Unlike the previous generation, it does not come with a tripod.
