UniFi speed upgrade

As announced during Budget 2017, TM set plans to bump internet speeds for its subscribers in 2017. This is part of TM’s initiative under the national Broadband Improvement Plan. Today, TM has officially announced it will give UniFi subscribers a free internet speed upgrade as part of its “Thank You Surprise” campaign.

The campaign is an appreciation campaign for all TM loyal customers within the residential segment. You’ll need to be a subscriber to TM services by 28 February 2017.

The telecommunication giant has revealed a webpage that details the free upgrade and for you to check if you’re eligible for the boost.

All you need to do is fill up your details in the form. Next, click on “Check My Surprise!.” If you’re eligible (like me!), you’ll be greeted with a page like below:

But wait, you do have a choice. You can opt to accept the free speed upgrade or not. If for whatever reason you’d like not to take up the offer, you can do that too.

Once you’ve accepted the offer, you’ll receive an email or SMS from TM by February 2017.

Note that after 31 January, you’ll not be able to accept the speed upgrade, or vice versa.

TM is doubling up internet speeds for its subscribers. For instance, my 30Mbps package will be bumped up to 50Mbps (Advance 50) without any charge or change in contract. Those with 5Mbps (VIP5) will be upgraded to 10Mbps (VIP10), while 10Mbps packages will get a boost up to 30Mbps (Advance 30), for free.

The free speed upgrade will be implemented in stages from January to June 2017, depending on your install location, and subject to technical readiness. Note that some UniFi customers may need new hardware to handle faster speeds.

This is fantastic news for all UniFi customers, and a great start to the new year!

Are you a UniFi customer? How do you feel about the free speed upgrade?
