Calling all Type-R fans! The all-new 2017 Honda Civic Type-R (FK8R) is now here in Malaysia, currently on display at the Sepang International Circuit for the upcoming Formula 1 GP this weekend.
The FK8R will be on preview at Sepang this weekend for the last ever Formula 1 GP, so JDM fans may want to indulge in the new Type-R’s bold and aggressive design.
Honda Malaysia has also opened the order books for the world’s fastest front-wheel drive car according to the incredible lap time clocked on the Green Hell (Nurburgring).
Malaysians can be considered a lucky lot when it comes to Honda cars. We tend to be the first or sometimes only country out of Japan to get certain Honda vehicles. Look at the Honda Jazz Sports Hybrid, City Sport Hybrid, or the FD2 Civic Type-R (the only market outside Japan).
The car in question features a brand new engine. A 2.0L VTEC turbocharged engine which produces 310bhp and 400Nm of torque. Now, some of you may have noticed the drop in horsepower. That’s because the Type-R’s outside the UK and EU are all detuned due to fuel quality considerations. However, Honda hasn’t changed the gearbox, so the venerable 6-speed manual is still standard issue.
For drivers who love driving modes, the Type-R has three available modes which does alter the adaptive dampers as well. Comfort, Sport and +R. As you’d expect, +R is easily summed in three words. “Oh My God!”
Another thing that comes in a trio are the exhaust pipes. Yes, three distinct outlets and they are all active exhausts too. Of course, some of you might think the design of the Type-R is a tad gaudy, but I absolutely love it! The design however, does actually help in the aerodynamics of the car, so it isn’t just for show.
The All-New Civic Type R model for Malaysian market is manufactured at Honda’s Swindon, United Kingdom plant with the engine being produced in Anna, Ohio (Honda of America Manufacturing Inc).
In celebrating the excitement of being the ‘Champion of Champions’, the All-New Civic Type R together with Jazz Hybrid Mugen, Civic 1.5L Turbocharged and All-New CR-V will be previewed at Honda Innovation. Evolution Booth, at the 2017 Formula One Petronas Grand Prix in Sepang International Circuit Mall Area from 29 September 2017 to 1 October 2017 (Formula 1 Malaysia Race Weekend).
Back to the booking, customers can begin placing orders beginning 1 October 2017 only at selected Honda Sport Dealers nationwide. Pricing and colour options are unclear as of now, but the Type-R on display in Sepang is finished off in Championship White.
