Acer Predator 21 X is pure madness and you’ll want one

Acer Predator 21 X

Throw whatever superlatives you like at it – biggest, baddest, most monstrous, most audacious – the Predator 21 X is the craziest thing ever to come out of the Acer Predator factory. It’s anything but subtle – from its world’s first curved screen, to its over-the-top styling and integrated eye-tracking technology.

Launched at IFA 2016 amongst other things, the Predator 21 X is a big, bold step for Acer into the premium gaming segment.

The gargantuan Predator 21 X packs a curved 21-inch IPS display (2560×1080), which Acer claims will give you wide-angle viewing and a ‘truly immersive gaming experience.’ It also supports NVIDIA G-Sync for ultra smooth, tear-free gameplay.

Perhaps notebook is a misnomer, because this baby weighs a ton. OK maybe not a ton but close – 8kg. I’d expect you not to lug it around (if you’re sane) on a daily basis.

Talking about gaming experience, the Predator 21 X integrates Tobii eye-tracking technology for a new way of control. It’s supposedly more intuitive and natural.

With a combination of eye-tracking hardware (infrared sensors) and software, it brings out new levels of gameplay especially in terms of aiming, identifying enemies or simply taking cover by gazing at objects on the screen. It is incredibly accurate and allows for hands-free interaction.

Under its unabashedly bold, chunky exterior is 7th Generation Intel Core “Kaby Lake” processor, with an earth-shattering dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 graphics cards in an SLI setup.

It supports up to 64GB of RAM and five storage drives.

It’s not all about visuals, as the Predator 21 X comes integrated with SoundPound 4.2+ (with four speakers and two subwoofers), 3-way audio and Dolby Audio.

The gaming behemoth plays cool with five system fans, three of which are ultra-thin AeroBlade metal fans.

What’s gaming without a mechanical keyboard? The Predator 21 X comes equipped with a full-sized mechanical keyboard featuring Cherry MX Brown switches. Each key has customizable RGB backlights.

Another unique feature is the modular-based numeric keypad that can be flipped over and turned into a Precision Touchpad.

Pricing and availability

The Predator 21 X is set to hit shelves on in the first quarter of 2017, and may be priced around US$5,000/MYR20,372.

If money was no object, would you?
