Even before it’s made its telco plans available, I bet you’re already confused about webe. First it introduced the brand without any telco plans. Instead it kicked things off with a Kickstarter-like platform called webe community. And now its unveiled another sub-brand of sorts – 850 by webe, housed at www.webe850.com.my.
Let’s take this one step a time. We know that webe is the telco formerly known as P1. We also know that P1 is a TM company. And we know that webe will be launching its telco plans in the second half of the year. Expectations are high though, especially when its MYR80/month unlimited plan was leaked.
Webe community has nothing to do with telco services but it’s part of webe’s plans to make telcos ‘exciting’ again. And perhaps more human.
So what’s this 850?
As you may know, webe will run on the 4G LTE Band 5 at 850MHz. Hence, the name ‘850’. Other 4G telcos including Celcom, Digi, Maxis and U Mobile run on 1800MHz or 2600MHz.
You will need a 850MHz smartphone, not something hard to find. Most modern smartphones will support Band 5, including the Samsung Galaxy S7/edge, Huawei Mate 8 and even the ASUS ZenFone Zoom.
Free data plan for a year, and more goodies
As a lead up to its official launch as a telco, webe has kicked off a campaign where it is offering up to MYR6 million worth of prizes. This includes a 1-year free data plan, smartphones, instant lifestyle rewards (worth MYR40,000) and once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
How do you win?
First and foremost, you’ll need to download the webe850 app, which is available for Android and iOS (sorry Windows Mobile). Register using an email address or Facebook and off you go.
The entire campaign runs on the basis of collecting points. When you sign up, you earn points. When you complete challenges, like hunt for QR codes, you earn points too. Collect as many points as you can, and climb up the leaderboard.
You can play the fun in-app game to gain points too. There’s also a daily quiz for you to earn more points.
For a no-brainer chance to win prizes, there’s also a Lucky Draw that will happen from 31 May to 29 July.
