Leaked MaxisONE plans see massive data boost of up to 20GB

MaxisONE Plan leak

After Maxis’ much-talked about Facebook announcement on its new MaxisONE plans, it looks like customers will get even more than they were promised. Based on a leaked brochure ahead of its official media announcement tomorrow, MaxisONE customers stand to get up to 20GB of data with unlimited calls and text.

A brochure was leaked by a Facebook user who claims to be a Maxis sales representative, spilling details about the new packages.

In a nutshell:

  • MaxisONE 98: 5GB data
  • MaxisONE 128: 10GB data
  • MaxisONE 158: 15GB data
  • MaxisONE 188: 20GB data

What’s interesting though, the MaxisONE Share option has been given a big boost. The MaxisONE Share now gets 5GB out-of-the-box along with unlimited calls and SMS.

This means, this 5GB is shared together with the principal line’s data quota. For instance, if you’re on a MaxisONE 128 plan with 10GB data, you now have a pool of 15GB, shared.

MaxisONE Share retains its price at MYR48/month.

That’s not all, though. An additional 5GB of extra data will be allocated to the principal line to stream video content on iflix, Viu, Eros Now and Hopster. This is valid for the first four months.

Initial thoughts

I laud Maxis’ move to add more value to its MaxisONE plans. It’s heeding users’ call for more data and I’m certainly happy with the amount of data that will snowball into my account. My mom will be very happy with 5GB (she’s on MaxisONE Share) and for me I’ll never have to worry about exceeding quota, for some time to come.

Having said that, Maxis should have a cheaper base plan. Perhaps in the MYR68/78 per month range. That would have budget-conscious customers who want to stay with the telco, or those who are considering to port in.

I’m also hoping Maxis will address its SurfMore and TalkMore customers, and perhaps give them good incentives to move to more current MaxisONE plans.

It’s a positive move that shows the green telco is responding to the market, and that it’s at least listening customers.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s announcement, and let’s hope there are other surprises.
