OPPO F1: Your key to selfie nirvana

OPPO F1

Selfies. Almost as normal and natural as brushing your teeth in the morning. And guess what? Based on research by Time Magazine in 2014, Malaysia (Petaling Jaya) was ranked #5 in the ‘selfiest cities’ in the world with 141 seflie-takers per 100,000 population. OPPO has just released the purposeful OPPO F1, sure to satisfy every selfie-takers’ needs.

The F1 is dubbed the ‘Selfie Expert’ and for good reason. It’s armed with an 8MP f/2.0 front-facing camera and some nifty photography software to deliver the best selfies you can imagine.

In terms of design, the F1 will look and feel familiar to those who have seen or own a R7 Series phone. You’ll get the much-loved all-metal build with chamfered edges, and a super slim 7.25mm thick profile. The back panel has undergone a painstaking 40 polishing procedures to deliver what OPPO calls “metal silk.” And compared against the more expensive R7 Series, the 2.5D Gorilla Glass 4 on the F1 feels even more refined and smooth to touch.

It’s all about selfies

But enough about design. Because the F1 is all about making your selfie, the best selfie. The front-facing 8MP camera comes with a fast f/2.0 lens and a 1/4 –inch CMOS sensor, letting in over 40% more light than a f/2.4 lens.

The F1’s ‘Beautify 3.0’ software ensures beautiful selfies by removing blemishes, highlights your best features and lets you enhance it further with special modes and filters.

There are times when you’re in a low-light environment. But fret not, the F1 has the patented ‘Screen Flash’ feature that ensures you get the best lighted, natural-looking selfies.

For added convenience, you can snap selfies by using hand gestures and spoken commands.

When you’re bored taking selfies, the F1 also sports a 13MP rear camera with ISOCELL sensor for reduced pixel noise. The camera features the familiar phase detection autofocus (PDAF), delivering focus time of just 0.1 seconds. A handy feature is anti-shake optimization, ensuring photos are sharp and clear.

The F1 camera has the backing of OPPO’s famed Pure Image 2.0+ imaging platform. This means a huge portfolio of filters and modes to play with. There’s Ultra-HD where a 50MP image is created by combining the best of four consecutives photos. Other modes include Super Macro, HDR, Double Exposure, Slow Shutter, Super GIF and more.

Under the hood, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 takes care of processing duties, alongside 3GB RAM and 16GB of storage. Thankfully, there’s an option to upgrade via microSD (up to 128GB).

The F1 is a dual-SIM phone that supports 4G LTE.

Audio enthusiasts will appreciate that the F1 comes built-in with Dirac HD Sound, delivering high-fidelity sound output for both speakers and headphones.

The F1 runs OPPO’s excellent ColorOS 2.1, based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
