Xiaomi expands bag of tricks, announces…wait for it… the Mi Trolley

Xiaomi Mi Trolley

A trolley? Seriously? We know Xiaomi‘s ambitions to be a household name both in China and globally. So far it has kept in line with its “internet company” DNA bringing not just smartphones and tablets to consumers, but internet-connected household items like smart air purifiers, weighing scales and smart TVs. It looks like the China brand wants to diversify its portfolio even further. Here’s the Mi Trolley.

It’s got four wheels, an extendable handle with three level stops and it has a capacity of 36 litres. It offers two separate compartments separated with a zipper and its supported by a hard cover on the outside. Empty, it weighs a scant 2.9kg. It has an integrated three-number locking system, too.

There’s no fancy schmancy tech on this baby. Nada. It isn’t RFID tagged. It isn’t Wi-Fi enabled. There’s no embedded NFC chip anywhere. Just a plain jane mid-sized trolley that you can bring with you on your travels.

And it costs just RMB299 (US$46/RM207) and has been available in China since 18 September. There’s a choice of White, Grey, Blue and Black colours.

This is something for the fans, I guess. And a very affordable piece of luggage, even if you’re not.
