The “2016 Flagship Killer” is coming next week, a Maxis-exclusive

OnePlus 2

After successfully launching the OnePlus One in April, Maxis and OnePlus have again partnered to bring the much-anticipated “2016 Flagship Killer” OnePlus 2 to Malaysia. The OnePlus One launch in Malaysia marked the first time globally that OnePlus has partnered a telco. The OnePlus 2 is no different, Maxis remains the exclusive carrier for the OnePlus 2.

The new smartphone will be available via the Maxis Online Store starting 22 September from 10am onwards. This is exclusively for customers who have received a special invite to purchase the phone. Fulfillment of online orders will begin 28 September. The phone will also be at Maxis outlets nationwide on the same date.

The OnePlus 2 will come only in 64GB Sandstone Black, priced at RM1,687 (US$389). If you’re a MaxisONE subscriber, you can grab a unit via the awesome Maxis Zerolution program, at just RM104 a month. If you’re not already on the MaxisONE plan, this is a great time to consider. MaxisONE offers up to 8GB of high-speed data, truly Limitless Calls and SMS to all networks in Malaysia. Plans start from RM98 a month.

The second generation OnePlus runs an updated version of the 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chip, mated to a whopping 4GB LPDDR4 RAM.

OnePlus has retained the 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display on its predecessor but has improved the brighter in-cell panel for better visibility under harsh sunlight.

The OnePlus 2 features an all-round aluminium alloy frame with an interchangeable backplate. Malaysians will get the signature Sandstone Black. There’s no word if the array of StyleSwap covers will be sold here.

In terms of camera optics, the OnePlus 2 boasts a 13MP f/2.0 shooter with 1.3 micron pixels size, complemented with laser focus and OIS. The front is an able 5MP unit.

Powering the device throughout the day is a 3,300mAh battery that charges up via a reversible USB Type C port.

Following current trends, the OnePlus 2 also comes equipped with a fingerprint scanner on the Home button.

The flagship killer runs OxygenOS, based on Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Globally, OnePlus still retains its invite-based system, but Malaysians are a luckier lot to have Maxis offering it in stores and online. The current OnePlus One sells for RM1,199.
