Honor 6 Plus and Honor 4C coming to Malaysia next week

Honor Malaysia will be celebrating its first anniversary in Malaysia (has it only been one year?) next week, and the China mobile giant is expected to launch two new phones — the flagship Honor 6 Plus and budget Honor 4C. The Honor 6 Plus has been teased on Honor Malaysia’s Facebook page with the hashtag #HonorBokeh, referring to the device’s dual-camera technology.

The Honor 6 Plus is the bigger sibling of the brilliant Honor 6 smartphone from last year, which I consider the best smartphone under RM1,000 in 2014. I had a chance to play with the device last December at an Honor event in Langkawi.

In terms of look and feel, the Honor 6 Plus looks similar to the Honor 6, only bigger. It weighs 165g, so it’s plenty light for its phablet-ish size.

Sporting a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display (401PPI) and powered by the in-house 1.8GHz octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 925 SoC with 3GB RAM, the Honor 6 Plus will appeal to those looking for a bigger device. Honor 6 really set the tone for the Honor series thanks to its power-packed specs, pleasing design and affordable price tag. The Honor 6 Plus looks like a natural upgrade.

The device gets 32GB of storage, upgradeable via microSD (up to 128GB). Like the recently-launched Honor 4X, the Honor 6 Plus is also a Dual-LTE, Dual-Standby device. It has a unique expansion slot where SIM 2 is shared with the microSD slot. So it’s a trade-off between additional memory or dual-SIM.

It packs a 3,600mAh battery that should ensure whole-day battery life.

What Honor has been teasing, though, is the intriguing dual-camera, that should work like HTC’s Duo Camera. Both cameras work in tandem, where the secondary camera captures more details like depth and dimension. You should see some ‘bokehlicious’ photos with the new 8MP main camera, and 8MP front-facing selfie cam.

Based on old specs it runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat, but I hope when it hits Malaysian shores we’d get the Android 5.0 Lollipop version, if available. The iOS-inspired Emotion UI 3.0 runs on top of Android.

Honor 4C

Honor 4C

The Honor 4C is a lesser sibling of the recently-launched Honor 4X, getting a 5-inch IPS HD display (294PPI) and powered by a similar HiSilicon Kirin 620 processor. It gets 2GB RAM and 8GB of storage (expandable up to 32GB via microSD).

The device was listed on Huawei’s official website in Russia, and is expected to be unveiled in Beijing on 28 April as well.

It’s a dual-SIM, dual-standby device but it is unclear if it will support 4G LTE.

Honor 4C

There’s a 13MP f/2.0 main camera with autofocus and LED flash and a 5MP front-facing snapper. It’s expected to run Android 5.0 Lollipop with Emotion UI 3.0 on top.

The Honor 4C gets a 2,550mAh battery which is bigger than the one on the Honor 3C. If you remember, the Honor 3C was Honor’s first product, and debuted at a price of just RM499, still impressive at this point.

In Russia, the Honor 4C is priced at 8,990 Ruble (RM609) so can we expect the Honor 4C to dip below RM500 like the Honor 3C?
