If you’ve been trying to get your hands on a hot new Xiaomi device online to no avail, here’s another avenue to consider. In an unprecedented move, Xiaomi has struck a partnership with online shopping mall Lazada Malaysia to bring the Redmi 1S to Malaysians on 27 August 2014.

Xiaomi’s guerilla marketing has been quite a phenomenon, selling out its portfolio of devices online within minutes. The Redmi 1S sold out in less than 6 minutes on Mi.com. Of course this is nothing compared to the 100,000 units of Mi 3 devices that sold out in 86 minutes when it debuted in China.

Lazada will be offering 3,000 units of Redmi 1S and guarantees a 48-hour delivery for the “vast majority of orders.” For orders made within the Klang Valley, many will receive their device(s) upon 24 hours of purchase.

Malaysians are fortunate to get an uprated version of the Redmi 1S instead of the original Redmi (Hongmi), which comes with a faster Snapdragon processor, more RAM and storage. The 4.7-inch Redmi 1S is an impressive, feature-packed device.

Lazada is South East Asia’s biggest online shopping mall and offers flexible payment options including cash on delivery (COD).

Lazada Malaysia will be selling the Redmi 1S for RM419 (same price as on Mi.com).

Mark your calendar, Mi fans: 3.00pm, 27 August 2014.
