BenQ today launched the world’s first flicker-free VA LED monitor for added eye comfort, better visual enjoyment and ultimately higher productivity – BenQ GW2760HS VA LED monitor.

The all-new 27-inch BenQ GW2760HS VA LED monitor features Flicker-free technology and Senseye Reading mode which promises a healthier option for heavy computer users, an increasing number of whom are affected by Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS).

Flicker-free monitors were previously available only for the professional market due to high prices. BenQ Service & Marketing (M) Sdn Bhd senior manager Chaw Foo Hong plans to roll out more flicker-free products by end of Q3 2013 with products ranging from 24-inch down to 18.5-inch, and said on record that all future BenQ display products will be flicker-free.

Speaking at the media launch earlier today, Association of Malaysian Optometrists (AMO) president Dr. Murphy Chan said that 60% of the world’s population suffer from eye and vision-related problems as a results from prolonged computer use. This is a new health concern that is afflicting the new computer network era.

Symptoms include eye strain and irritation, headaches, blurred and double vision, redness on eyeballs, dry eyes, eye muscle spasms; and neck and shoulder pain.

Symptoms are increasingly common among the younger generation, due to constant exposure to gadgets including computers, tablets and smartphones.

Flicker, or the flashing effect that occurs as the LED backlight controller of a monitor adjust to changes in brightness levels, causes the human eye to strain the ciliary muscle to adjust to nearly invisible flickering on screen. A regular monitor backlight can cause backlight flickering at 200Hz per second when brightness is reduced from the maximum level.

For example, at 200 times per second in 8 hours of computer use, your eyes would have blinked an astonishing 5.76 million times.

BenQ’s new flicker-free GW2760HS adopts a unique De-flickering Backlight Circuit Controller for zero-flickering viewing experience.

The GW2760HS is a wide-screen (16:9) 27-inch LED backlit display which supports HD resolution of up to 1920 x 1080. The new display has brightness levels of 300 cd/m2 with a contrast ratio of 3000:1. It features on of the highest response times from grey to grey (GtG) at 4ms. The monitor comes in-built with multiple inputs – D-Sub, DVI, HDMI, headphone jack and Line In.

Other features at a glance:

  • Senseye Reading Mode – adjusts monitor’s colour temperature and brightness levels, balances contrast ratio and sharpness to simulate look of paperback paper;
  • Automatic Eye-Protect Sensor – detects ambient light levels and adjust monitor brightness automatically
  • Heigh Adjustment Stand (selected models)
  • Anti-Glare Display – matt finish that avoids eye-strain

The BenQ GW2760HS is available now for RM959.00 (RRP).
