Microsoft Malaysia recently announced the availability of Microsoft Office 365 for Education, its cloud-based suite of productivity, communications and collaboration tools to schools at no cost. Office 365 includes the familiar Microsoft Office desktop applications as well as Microsoft Exchange Online, Microsoft SharePoint Online and Microsoft Lync Online.

Office 365 puts powerful tools in the hands of educators – for creation, learning opportunities across multiple devices in addition to email, calendars, Microsoft Office Web Apps, video, online meetings and advance document creation features specifically for curriculum planning and student projects.

Initial response for Office 365 for Education has been positive. Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (“APU”), an award-winning premier Malaysian private university focused on technology, innovation and creativity, has already started to adopt Office 365 for Education.

Rasodin Ramudin Hamzah, Technology and Infrastructure Manager for APU quipped that Office 365 has enabled teachers to extend teaching beyond traditional classroom boundaries and provided enormous collaborative benefits. And despite being free, there is no advertising in Office 365 for Education, as compared with other market alternatives.
