The much-anticipated iPad 3 Launch event is just hours away (Wednesday, March 7, 10AM PST / 2AM +8). The venue – Yerba Buena Center for Arts in San Francisco, the same location where the first iPad and iPad 2 were revealed. Naturally with any Apple event, the speculations, rumors and leaks spread throughout the world like wildfire. If only money could be spread around as easily!

Certain quarters have speculated that the new tablet will not be called the iPad 3, but rather the iPad HD, attributed to an all new high-def, Sharp-manufactured Retina Display and improved graphics capabilities via the enhanced ARM-based Apple A5X-processor.

Here’s some of the things you can expect (info scoured from Engadget, The Verge, Gizmodo, Cnet):

  • A slightly thicker form factor and more pronounced rounded edges.
  • 9.7″ Retina Display (support 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution)
  • Dual-core Apple A5X processor
  • Storage options of 16/32/64GB
  • Several models (WIFI, LTE)
  • A better camera (speculated 8MP rear)
  • iOS 5.1

In addition, there is talks of a low-end 8GB iPad 2 to challenge the likes of the Kindle and Nook.

There may also be other announcements, including an A5X-powered Apple TV, new software and perhaps a preview of iOS 6? Could they also announce that the Apple TV is finally open to developers?

At this point, what we know isn’t really relevant anymore is it?
