HMD Global, home to Nokia, has demonstrated a strong showing at MWC 2018 in Barcelona. Kicking the keynote off with the throwback 8110 Reloaded banana slider, the Finnish phone maker moved on to bigger, better things including the new Nokia 6, Nokia 7 Plus and surprise Nokia 8 Scirocco.
The Nokia 7 Plus sits nicely below the Nokia 8 and just announced Nokia 8 Scirocco, offering a big 18:9 screen, premium design and affordable price tag.
Milled from a single block of aluminium, Nokia says each Nokia 7 Plus goes through a 6-layer paint process, giving it a seamless ceramic feel and look.
It does look good, at least from first impressions.
Hardware-wise, the Nokia 7 Plus isn’t shabby at all. It boasts an expansive 6-inch FullHD+ display (2160×1080), and also get a Snapdragon 660 chipset, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
It’s powered by a large 3,800mAh battery which fast charges up via USB Type-C and Nokia promises two days of battery life on a single charge.
You’ll get a dual-camera setup consisting of a 12MP f/1.75 main sensor + 13MP f/2.6 telephoto lens that supports Live Bokeh. Optics, by the way, are supplied by the renowned Carl Zeiss.
And here’s a piece of brilliant news: Nokia has brought back the Pro Camera for full manual controls. Yippie.
Also, Nokia debuts a new Imaging Suite with the new device. You can add AR effects to your images and videos.
On the front, it gets an equally impressive 16MP f/2.0 selfie snapper.
In tandem, these cameras can take “Bothies”—something made popular by the Nokia 8.
The great thing about the Nokia 7 Plus is that it runs Android One, meaning you get a full stock version of Android, as Google intended.
It is skin-free, bloat-wear free, and certainly lag-free. Android One guarantees a solid lifespan of updates as well—two major updates to be exact.
The Nokia 7 Plus will retail at EUR399/MYR1,922 and the device will go on sale in April 2018.
