Tesla has unveiled the all-new, fully redesigned Roadster, a futuristic electric supercar that boasts incredible performance and impressive range.
The Tesla Roadster is now in its second generation. Based on the official Tesla website, the new Roadster has three things which really stand out from the crowd. But first things first, the price tag. The all-new Roadster comes with a USD200,000 (MYR831,300) for the basic model. On top of that, you would have to pay a USD50,000 deposit to secure your booking. Once that is done, you’ll have to wait until 2020 before the vapourware car goes into production.
Now, the first thing worth mentioning is the design. The Roadster is basically one of the most futuristic looking production cars in the market today. But once it goes into production, there could be some changes and tweaks in the design to make it more acceptable to the public’s eye.
The Roadster comes with a Targa glass roof which can be stored in the trunk of the car. Once removed, you find the 2+2 seating configuration and the famous Tesla minimalist interior design. Inside, the Roadster sports a large central screen, similar to other Tesla’s in the lineup and a F1-inspired steering wheel.
Next, the performance. Tesla hasn’t disclosed any performance figures for the Roadster, but they did share some areas which will really make your jaws drop. The century sprint for instance, will take only 1.9 seconds before hitting the top speed of over 400kmph. It could even be faster than some of the other hypercars in the market today.
It is of course an AWD vehicle and the amount of wheel torque, is tremendous. If Tesla isn’t fooling around, the Roadster will come with 10,000Nm of torque.
Now we come to the bit which raises the question on electric cars, range anxiety. But Tesla has that figured out, hopefully. The super fast Roadster will have a electric range of almost 1,000km. As of now, there isn’t that much to note about the new Roadster.
But the order books are now opened and you may now cash in your aforementioned upfront deposit of USD50,000 (MYR207,875). This particular method isn’t new with Tesla. The company did the same with the Model 3 by collecting a USD1,000 (MYR4,157) in early 2016. Hopefully the production model of the Roadster will look as good as it is now.
