When we think of Australia, the first things on our minds are usually koala bears, kangaroos, Aussie beef and Holden V8 supercars. OK, the last one is just for me. And not forgetting the icons – Sydney Opera House (and the Sydney Harbour). One of the most-talked about events on the Australian calendar is Vivid Sydney – a spectacular festival that’s a culmination of creative arts and the best of technology.
The annual Vivid Sydney is the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas. Originally planned for 18 days, this year’s instalment has been specially extended to 23 days. Activities sprawl across Harbour City, a beautiful fusion of art and technology. Last year, over 1.7 million visitors attended the festival.
Now in its eight year, it is owned and managed by Destination NSW, the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency.
Intel Inside, truly amazing experiences outside
Intel is the main Vivid Sydney partner for the sixth consecutive year, powering artistic and technological interactive masterpieces at the festival.
Previous Vivid Sydney activations include collaborations with international superstars like will.i.am and local light artists.
This year’s Vivid Sydney will be by far the biggest, and most breathtaking including cutting-edge showcases like the Drone 100 performance; the virtual reality Bjork Digital Exhibition; Vivid Live; Sounds Cells at the Sydney Opera House; Eyes on the Harbour featuring Intel RealSense technology; and smaller but no less interesting installations like Plecstrum; Wormhole Galaxy; Tree Hugger, PTOLEMi and Harbour Lights.
As you know Intel acquired drone specialist Ascending Technologies early in the year, and spectators will get to see one of the fruits of labour from the acquisition at the Drone 100 show.
Drone 100, Intel’s world-record-holding drone performance, will make a public debut at Vivid Sydney. This will happen for five nights only, from 8 to 12 June. 100 illuminated drones will perform a specially-choreographed routine over Sydney Harbour, accompanied by the Sydney Youth Orchestra. And for the first time ever, these drones will be deployed from a barge.
I for one, am looking forward to a great show!
