OPPO outs R7 Plus FC Barcelona Edition “Smartphone of Champions”

As you know, OPPO recently signed a three-year partnership with world-renowned football club FC Barcelona. In Beijing today, the smartphone maker revealed the OPPO R7 Plus FC Barcelona Edition, the first product to mark the momentous collaboration. The “Smartphone of Champions” as it is aptly dubbed, will be sold at US$549 and only 5,000 units will be built and sold.

To mark the occasion, a giveaway and charity auction of phones autographed by top players including Lionel Messi will be held.

FC Barcelona fans will be chuffed that the R7 Plus special edition phone will come with the club’s crest engraved on the back, coupled with a FC Barcelona-themed wallpaper and a fan kit. The special fan kit includes a FC Barcelona leather protective case, water bottle, VOOC power bank and a selfie stick.

The OPPO R7 Plus FC Barcelona Edition is no different from a regular OPPO R7 Plus hardware-wise. It sports the same 6-inch Full HD AMOLED display, octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 with 3GB RAM. It features a hybrid SIM that supports dual-SIM, dual-LTE or can be used to up storage to up to 128GB via microSD.

A Sony-sourced 13MP f/2.2 main shooter with dual-tone LED flash and laser autofocus will keep snap-happy people happy as would the 8MP front shooter.

Underneath its slim frame is a massive 4,100mAh battery and if you’re ever low on battery, there’s the famed VOOC Flash Charging to give you juice in little time. A 5-minute charge time will give you up to 2 hours of talktime. Excellent.

Aside from the 5,000 retail units, there will be five R7 Plus units autographed by Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Dani Alves, which will be auctioned off on ebay. All proceed will be donated to the FC Barcelona Foundation. A giveaway for the limited edition phone will also be held in September, giving fans in over 20 countries a chance to win.

Fans in China will get to own the 64GB OPPO R7 Plus FC Barcelona aEdition, costing RMB3,999 (RM2,708) while global markets will get the 32GB version that’s priced at US$549 (RM2,367). It will only be offered in Gold colour. Sales in China start today. The rest of the world will need to wait till later this month. The phone will be available for purchase at online stores like OPPOStyle.com and more.

The regular OPPO R7 Plus is priced at RM1,998 inclusive of GST.
