Microsoft has introduced a whole new Surface – the Surface Pro 3, a lightweight, thin tablet that’s designed to replace your notebook, barely six months after the debut of the Surface Pro 2. The new 2-in-1 device packs a 12-inch ClearType Full HD display, a 4th Generation Intel Core (“Haswell”) processor and up to 8GB RAM.
The Surface of course, is a multi-talented device – it’s a tablet when you want it to, and a full-fledged notebook when you snap the Surface Pro Type Cover in.
Microsoft has made direct comparisons with the 11-inch Apple MacBook Air, with the Surface Pro 3 coming in 30% thinner.
The Surface Pro 3, we expect, will still hold the title of “the most productive tablet” with Windows 8.1 Pro with full support of both desktop and tablet apps, including its own productivity suite – Microsoft Office.
Improved Surface accessories include the improved Surface Pro Type Cover and new premium Surface Pen.
Additionally, there’s the new Docking Station for Surface Pro 3 and Surface Ethernet Adapter.
Commercially, the Surface brand has expanded into 31 commercial markets globally.
Pre-order and availability
The new Surface Pro 3 will be priced at $799 (estimated) and will be offered in multiple configurations featuring 4th Generation Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors.
Pre-orders will start at 12:01am, 21 May 2014 through Microsoftstore.com.
The Surface Pro 3 is expected to reach Malaysian shores at the end of August, along with 25 more countries.
