Xiaomi is a rising star in the mobile hardware business with its star product, the Mi3 selling 100,000 units in a record 86 seconds last year. While not in Malaysia yet, the fifth largest brand in China entered Singapore in February. We got our hands on its budget model, the Redmi (or ‘Hongmi’ as it is known in China) and come out mighty impressed. While you wait for a first impressions post, catch the unboxing pics after the jump.
The Redmi packs a 4.7inch HD 720p display protected by Gorilla Glass 2. It is powered by the popular quad-core MediaTek MT6589T processor rated at 1.5Ghz, with 1GB RAM and 4GB storage.
Impressively, it comes with an 8MP main camera.
What we think is its best feature is its MiUI ROM which makes things light, intuitive and fast.
The Redmi package is very neat, and includes the phone unit, charger, USB cable, screen protector, two micro-SIM adapters and cleaning cloth.
The Xiaomi Redmi is priced at S$169 in Singapore. There are plenty of grey imports now in Malaysia – with the best deals being found on big online retailers like IPMart (RM506) and Lazada (RM530).
