Admit it. You’re drawing now. And doodling. Or at least you’re trying. It’s 3am and you’re still trying to figure out WTF your Facebook buddy just described on screen in what seems to be an incongruous series of lines and ink blots. If like me, you’re hooked to a certain social mobile game called Draw Something, then congratulations, you’re part of the fraternity of millions of doodling idiots spread across 84 countries – drawing, pondering, thinking, pulling out hair.

Draw Something is fun, engaging and deeply social. 30 million downloads later, it has become a runaway smash hit. In the last week, more than 1 billion drawings have been created. Draw Something had three drawings per second the day the game launched. New York-based app developer OMGPOP, creator of the addictive drawing game isn’t new to the app scene, having made over 35 multiplayer social games including Blockles, Puppy World and Aim For The Nuts.

Drawing will never be the same again.

Monolith social gaming services provider Zynga Inc took notice. It has announced that it has acquired OMGPOP for a cool $200 million. Zynga is the world’s leading provider of social game services with more than 240 million monthly active users playing its games, which include CityVille, FarmVille, Words With Friends, Scramble With Friends, CastleVille, Mafia Wars and Café World. Zynga’s games are available on a number of global platforms, including Facebook, Google+, Tencent, Apple iOS and Google Android.
“The OMGPOP team has created a game that’s fun, expressive and engenders real social interaction,” said Mark Pincus, founder and CEO of Zynga. “Draw Something has captured the imagination of millions of people around the world. We love the way they’ve worked playful and relevant culture into their games from Devo to Daft Punk, from Lin to Beckham. We’re honored to have the opportunity to partner with and support such an innovative team of creative inventors.”
As a part of the Zynga family, OMGPOP will focus on building new mobile IP and strengthening its existing portfolio of fun and creative social games. OMGPOP will remain headquartered in New York (at its totally cool offices) and report to David Ko, Chief Mobile Officer of Zynga.
