Last year was the year of notched displays, but one device stood out like every good rebel with a cause does – Xiaomi’s Mi MIX 2S. The third generation of the concept phone turned real deal debuted mid-last year, priced just under MYR2,000. So, here’s some excellent news – Xiaomi is giving a sweet price slash for the phone in conjunction with the Chinese New Year festivities, now starting from just MYR1,399 for the base model.
That’s an absolute steal, if you’re looking to pick up the entry-level 6GB RAM + 64GB storage model. If you have slightly deeper pockets, the 128GB storage model goes for MYR1,699, which is also a mouth-watering option. The price point brings it close to the last year’s dark horse – the Pocophone F1, which retails for MYR1,299.
There’s everything to love about the Mi MIX 2S, and I’m personally a fan of the device (read my impressions on it here). From the bright and sharp 5.99-inch FHD+ (1080×2160) display to its impeccable build quality and design.
Underneath, it rocks the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 845c chip, the first phone in China at that time to feature the new SoC. It’s a blazing chip no doubt, scoring over 270,000 points on AnTuTu benchmark tests.
The Mi MIX 2S is the first in the Mi MIX series to sport a dual-camera system. It has the now familiar 12MP (wide) + 12MP (telephoto) f/1.8 dual-camera system featuring the Sony IMX363 sensor. It boasts Dual Pixel autofocus, 4-axis OIS, dual-tone dual-LED flash and large 1.4-micron pixels for great low light performance.
It’s an impressive camera. DxOMark labelled the phone the “Chinese gem” as it scored 101 points in photo tests.
