Webe, TM’s mobile brand, is in a very unique position. Up until Digi showed up with its Postpaid Infinite plan recently, webe was the only telco in Malaysia to offer truly unlimited internet. It still holds the distinction of being the only player with a single postpaid plan, if that’s any consolation.
What makes webe great is its never-ending data, calls and SMS proposition. All for just MYR79 per month. That’s something still unmatched in the industry.
However, its tethering or personal hotspot is offered as an add-on. Customers will need to buy a Mobile WiFi Hourly Pass that costs MYR6 for two hours of hotspot use.
For a certain percentage of users (me included), tethering is part and parcel of the mobile experience. It’s important for work on the go, especially when I’m lugging a notebook and need an internet connection.
Webe’s hourly pass is severely limiting, and cripples the excellent unlimited data proposition.
To address that, the telco has just rolled out a Mobile WiFi Monthly Pass. The pass gives you tethering quota worth 500MB and it’s valid for 30 days. The cool thing is if the data is unused, it can be rolled over, for a maximum of 90 days. This costs MYR8 (or MYR8.48 incl. 6% GST).
It’s a shame webe isn’t offering more quota options, but it’s a start. It shows that the telco is listening to its customers, and is working to enhance its products.
What I’d love to see is a tier system where users can buy a certain number of GBs for a fee. I’ll gladly pay for that.
Note that you can actually subscribe to both the monthly and hourly pass simultaneously. Webe will utilise your hourly pass before it feeds off your monthly pass.
Free hotspot sharing
For a limited time only, webe is giving away 1GB of free hotspot data for three months. This applies to new and existing webe customers. The promo runs from 12 April till 12 July 2017. Unlike the monthly pass, this data cannot be rolled over. The 1GB quota will be refreshed at the next billing cycle.
You can track your data usage from webe’s self care app, or from the web.
