VW x Tarik Jeans launch clothing collection to save Malayan Tapir

VW x Tarik Jeans collection

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has joined hands with local premium denim label Tarik Jeans to raise funds and create awareness around the endangered Malayan Tapir. The collaboration has resulted in a ready-to-wear clothing line—“Modern Nostalgia – the collection” which blends Malaysian heritage, nostalgia and contemporary style.

The collection comprises specially-designed t-shirts, caps, keychains, patches, tote bags and bandanas.

Part of the profits generated from the sales of the exclusive collection will be donated to the Kenaboi Forest Reserve in Negeri Sembilan on World Tapir Day which falls on 27 April every year.

The main goal of the collaboration is to secure the future of the endangered Malayan Tapir by raising awareness and contributing to conversation efforts.

The Malayan Tapir is the only Asian species native to the island of Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia and Southern Thailand. Despite its natural lifespan of up to 30 years, agricultural developments, deforestation, illegal animal trafficking and traffic accidents have resulted in a drastic plummet in numbers. Moreover, it is estimated that there are only less than 3,000 of them left in the wild today.

However, conservation efforts such as the planned reservation created by the Negeri Sembilan Wildlife, Perhilitan and National Park Department offer hope for this gentle creature.
