U Mobile UMI 36

The prepaid mobile segment is undoubtedly the most price segment in the telco space. It’s no surprise that it’s also the fastest-moving, ever-changing segment with telcos throwing plenty of add-ons and value-added extras to entice consumers. U Mobile, the people who brought some disruptive plans over the past few years, has just rolled out two more new ones: the UMI 36 and UMI 26 for its prepaid subscribers.

If you’re a WhatsApp heavyweight, music lover or video streaming buff, then these new plans are for you.

Firstly, you’ll enjoy a free 30-day JOOX VIP subscription (worth MYR14.90) for both plans a well as unlimited data for music streaming, and WhatsApp & WeChat apps.

Next, let’s drill down to the UMI 36. For MYR36 per month, you’re entitled to 7.5GB of high speed data, 7.5GB dedicated data for video streaming via Video-Onz. Additionally, you’ll also get unlimited data to stream on YouTube from 2AM to 10AM daily. Great for insomniacs, no doubt.

At MYR26 per month, UMI 26 offers 2.5GB of high speed internet data, as well as additional 2.5GB of dedicated video streaming data via Video-Onz.

If you pair either plans with U Mobile’s Unlimited Power Prepaid Pack, you stand to also enjoy free data for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram via App-Onz.

You can grab a new Unlimited Power Prepaid starter pack, or convert from your old prepaid plan by dialling *118*6*2*3# or sending MIG Unlimited to 28118.

Let’s see how these plans compare with existing, similarly-priced UMI plans:

U Mobile UMI 36

From the comparison table, you’ll see that the new UMI 36 offers 5GB more Video-Onz data and unlimited social chat (WhatsApp and WeChat) compared to UMI 30.

On the other hand, the new UMI 26 gets substantially more data (1GB high-speed + 2GB Video-Onz data) and free unlimited WhatsApp and WeChat data compared to the base UMI 20 plan.

The previous UMI 38 now starts to look a little silly, offering just 2GB of high-speed data.

Note that validity for all plans is 30 days.
